I'm wondering how they arrived at those numbers, because I looked at the last few weeks of reports from the UK HSA site and none of the numbers come close to suggesting anything close to what is being reported here.
But the vaccination rate in the UK is around 90% for adults, so proportions probably aren't being factored into the data here. If we assume that all the numbers being reported are true, then vaccines are still more effective than the control group since a smaller proportion are dying or requiring hospitalization.
