From what I gather the earthquakes were more the main concern for that massive chunk of the island shearing off and creating a tsunami. Once the volcano erupted, that acted like a pressure relief valve, ending the earthquakes and decreasing the chances that the shearing event could occur.

@stratosranger Do what I did for Stereo guy. The water height here on the east coast would be about 25 feet...so all you need to do is find a topographical map that shows elevations. Find a spot higher than 25 feet away from the shore, and if they announce that tsunami is coming at any time in the future, you have 9 hours to get to that spot.

Thank you for this advice. Sad to say he and I are on the same shallow peninsula. Higher ground is a 6 hour drive north. With millions of others attempting to do the same in that narrow span of time…I’ll probably just go as far west as I can and hope for the best. @4meAndyou

That’s why I would head west. What is the elevation there? @Stereoguy

@Stereoguy Well, yes. It would be. 🧭 😆 I just looked up topographies of that area and I did not know there was anything down here that rose up that high above sea level. For me? Go West, young man! (My favorite Genesis song)
