Hi Piper. Great and timely topic. Last night, there were local fireworks going off everywhere!! My husband and I took a walk around the neighborhood to watch them and what struck me were the frantic flocks of birds flying from tree to tree in an obvious panic. I never really noticed this before because fireworks used to be done by the professionals on an open field. Now, anyone can purchase them and shoot them off. They are hardly sparklers.
@Peapod Yeah, animals don't get the thrill humans feel with it all. Used to have a dog that would get so terrified. Sad

Hi @Peapod. Some people were setting them them off around here, from July 1rst on. I did expect it Saturday evening and yesterday, at least. Those people included the people who rent the house next door to me, and I actually considered calling the police at one point, on Saturday night. The booms were SO loud, and it went on and on.
This happens days before after New Year's Eve, too. I do understand the thrill and attraction of fireworks. Even knowing the harmful impacts of them to animals and the environment, I think the professional displays are thrilling to see. I know too much about the harm they do now, though, to like them.

@EasyFriend Yeah, no thrill at all. I rarely witness the terror wild animals experience due to loud fireworks, but it's sure heartbreaking seeing their impact on my own dog friend.

I bought some pills for my old dog, and I hope they keep her calm as people fire off totally illegal fireworks in our neighborhood tonight and tomorrow night.

Not to mention people who are trying to sleep. (Although I suppose we might be considered domesticated animals too!)

This reminds me of people using an animal corpse as the main course of a meal every day and never giving a thought to the atrocities against animals they support with their cruel diet of meat and other animal products.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
could use a reminder again. also they can be very dangerous!
Piper · 61-69, F
@samueltyler2 Yes. Thousands of people are injured every year, and sometimes fatally.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Piper yes, as a child, i had a burn, luckily not too bad, when a "roman candle" went through my shirt.
Lovely. I'm with you.
DrWatson · 70-79, M

@DrWatson That's fascinating... Not sure how it works but... Okay?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@DrWatson i wonder how they can get the fireworks launched without some form of explosion?
Elevatorpitches · F
its insane around here too, also a horrible pointless saturday noon siren lasting about 90 secs, deafening to all...no one knows people could change this

@MarmeeMarch Yeah, most likely. The "safe", safest, safer kind, are usually not those set off by the amateur fireworks enthusiasts referred to by my post.

Good luck. Where I am we’re experiencing drought conditions and everyone is stressed about potential wildfires. Private fireworks are prohibited because of it. But morons have still been shooting off fireworks since last week. The police have been arresting them and the fire department has had to put out fires. But they persist. 🙄

@bijouxbroussard Hi hon. I personnally no longer consider myself a patriot even though I'm a direct descendent of one of Declaration sighners, I will be watching the heavily controlled display in our park from my balcony.
Piper · 61-69, F
Sorry to hear that, @bijouxbroussard. That has been the case here too, in the past. It is a grave concern, and morons is surely not too harsh a word for those who endanger the lives of others for "fun".
It has been raining where I am, finally, after a long stretch of drought conditions.

@RogueLoner I do realize that some people do not care about the impact their idea of fun has on other beings, yes.

@RogueLoner Okay. It's rare that people around here do that, except for before and after the 4th of July, and New Year's. It does happen sometimes, though. 😐
