I Have a Garden

The corn is looking great! This particular seed was given to me by a friend. Peppermint corn! Swirls of red and white. Quite lovely. It will be interesting to see what the fresh ears look like. And cooking it! I'd never heard of such. Will it make pink creamed corn..lol?Depending on how well it makes, would be interesting to try selling at the farmers market. I will try to post a photo when it does come in.

I have seen a variety of colored corns. including rainbow corn. Swirls sound like something new though. cool!

@sunni One of my favorite things is gardening and interesting plants. It's my kind of fun.

At first I wondered if the swirl was a form of KRS (Kernal red streak) in a white variety of corn. But from the photo it doesn't look like KRS at all. From what google could tell me, that kind of candy stripe look is from messing with a gene on one of the 10 chromosomes that corn has. Pretty interesting stuff.

I wonder if ground up, the cornmeal and corn tortillas made with it would look pink 🤔

I just though of pink creamed corn! Went and asked husb. He said well sure! He also said it won't be long until ready to pick...yayyy!
Yes the friend that gave it to me said it turned out that way due to fiddling around genetically. I will be so excited to see the fresh ears!!

Haha..no. just an old family friend who is into odd and old varieties. He does stone ground meal and grits. A real treat when he comes to visit bringing the little brown sacks of products!

How's your garden? I have a ridiculous amount of produce coming in right now. I don't think I'll have to buy any groceries except for meats and yogurt and ingredients for salad dressings for the rest of summer. So Yummy!
