An other fishing story

Right, so I headed out for a spot of fishing late afternoon, just to enjoy being by the water. I got to my usual spot and bumped into a few kids trying to catch some pike.Had a quick chinwag with them… in Dutch. Now, even though I live in the Netherlands, I've got to admit my Dutch is still pretty hit-and-miss. Let's just say I know enough to talk about fishing... but I’m not exactly ready to debate climate change. 😂Anyway, I managed to make them understand that fishing for pike in this weather—bloody roasting, over 40°C in direct sunlight—is basically a death sentence for the fish. Even if it swims off, the stress and the heat will probably finish it off.I happened to have a spare little black Mepps spinner with orange dots on me. So, I handed it over on one condition: leave the pike alone during the heatwave and go after the perch instead.Deal done. 🤝And mate… the kids started hauling in perch non-stop.One, two, three…Mind you, I was catching a few myself! Had to save a bit of face, didn't I? 😅But honestly, they completely wiped the floor with me.So, breakdown of the trip: I caught some fish, taught them a thing or two… and incidentally got completely schooled by some kids, In the end, I’m not sure what was harder: explaining why you shouldn’t fish for pike in 40-degree heat… or swallowing my pride because a bunch of kids caught more than me. 😂🎣

@4meAndyou thank you 😊 they helped me more than I helped them tbh … I’ve been feeling pretty blue and low self esteem lately . This was a good boost

@Julien Kids are wonderful that way. Their cheerful desire to learn ALWAYS lifts us up.
