Move over eggs, here comes chocolate
Just in time for Valentine's Day.
Chocolate prices are going up due to a worldwide cocoa shortage.
Years of bad weather in the key cocoa-producing region of West Africa and the cocoa swollen shoot virus disease have created the largest cocoa supply deficit in more than 60 years. In the last two years, the cost of manufacturing chocolate has increased by more than 167%, according to the Producer Price Index.
British chocolatiers feeling the heat: “It’s a nightmare, I don’t think any business involved in chocolate has avoided this impact, and it’s all down to climate change.” – Andy Soden, Kernow Chocolate
I love chocolate. I exist on it. I'll stop buying eggs so I can afford the chocolate.
