Nope, it's all good.

Let n = number of students, p = number passed, f = number failed.

Obviously n = p + f, right?

p = 35 (given)
f = 30% of n = 0.3 * n

so

n = 35 + 0.3 * n

n - 0.3 * n = 35

0.7 * n = 35

n = 35 / 0.7 = 50
