We have a cemetery near us that has graves of soldiers killed in the War of 1812. Sobering to read the headstones of old cemeteries.

I always find something fascinating in old cemeteries, and I'm always saddened by the number of children's graves.
SageWanderer · 70-79, M
@exexec That’s the sadness walking through; along with the shorter life spans.

My favorite place to hang out
SageWanderer · 70-79, M
@ScreamingFox Another reason I like you, common interests.
I have a fascination with old cemeteries too
SageWanderer · 70-79, M
@robingoodfellow I have noticed we have a lot of similar interests. And your posts are most enjoyable, particularly with pictures.
My mother's second husband was a cemetery caretaker, it had a civil was section, some of them were only 13 and 14 years old.

@NativePortlander1970 A lot of the stones were too weathered to read but I did notice quite a few children. Not many from the Civil War era.
@SageWanderer They were child soldiers that most likely passed as adults.
