All advice is from my brother, plus a little research and trial on my ex
- Beard oil.
It may take some time to find the one that works best for you, (everyones hair/beard types are different)...and has the smell you like.
- You gotta be religious with it. & Use it everytime you get outta the shower, (it's the best time to oil, the hair shaft is open from the heat of the water amd will not only draw in the oil, but applying at that time helps lock in the moisture from washing, which helps the hair/beard be softer).
- Get a beard brush - The best ones are boar bristle - Brush regularly. (Clean your beard brush now and then)
Can also reapply beard oil at other times like before bed (and brush oil through). Brush in all directions to work the oil right in.
- Itll take time to reach optimum softeness. So dont get disappointed if its not downy chick soft within a week. The idea is that the hair will soak some oil in, but if you keep at it, eventually you'll grow a beard that has been oiled right from when each hair started - and thats when the whole beard becomes super soft.
I dunno how long it takes for beard hair to grow, or how long yours is - so i cant give a time span for optimum results. Months . ...maybe longer,aybe less.
One more thing my brother told me, that makes a difference to 'feel' or 'softness: - 'if, when you get your cut/trimmed, try and get it so the ends are facing inward. He let me feel his beard and it was so soft. No spikyness.
After feeling his i dont understand why most men dont oil their beards.
It makes a MASSIVE. difference.

Oh, also - use beard oil sparingly. You dont need much and too much will leave excessive oil not soaking in and attracting dirt instead - which can dry out beard hair Just a few drops on your palms is enough.
