I can tell time by the sun a few different ways. One way is holding your hand sideways level horizon then keep adding fingers till you reach the sun. That will tell you how much daylight you have left

Look at shadows and their placement tells what hour it is

Where the sun is sitting in sky

At night, look at the moon, where is at in the sky

Speaking of the moon. The shape of moon will tell what week of the month it is. If you know that. Then aline with with the north star and figure out what day it is.

What about cloudy days listen to the frogs, bugs and other animals. Watch and study them. Become one with nature

Can I start a fire? I can a fire with nothing in pockets and searching for what I need.

I took survivalist wildness training in my late teens though my early 20s for like 6 years. I still practice the skills today and teach them to my grandkids. Never know when they might need them skills.

WowwGirl · 36-40, F
Because I know the others. And idk bubby. I want to believe you but that is harrrdd
HumanEarth · F
Yes they are hard. Very hard. The bow, the plow and plane, the hand and stick rubbing, are the hardest

Best if you learn how to identify types of rocks that make spark. Like flint and quartz
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
@HumanEarth we have no flint but limestone sparks I've tried before
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
Japanese bow drill looks the best to me. Very impressive sir
HumanEarth · F
Flint is everywhere, limestone is too soft and brittle
HumanEarth · F
@WowwGirl Best thing is do is to pick one is master one, then learn another and master that one
HumanEarth · F
And so on
WowwGirl · 36-40, F

HumanEarth · F
@HumanEarth maple a hardwood and cedar is a softwood good combo for getting a fire going
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
@HumanEarth oak or cedar for heat , sycamore for longevity
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
Green wood to build or frame
HumanEarth · F
Yes, but what about starting a fire from nothing
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
@HumanEarth friction with wood or sparks.
HumanEarth · F
No green wood to build a fire or to start a fire.

You want drier the better
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
@HumanEarth dang.. idk
