Three Pictures through the years of where I grew up.

Before Man arrived, this was the countryside surrounding Queenstown Tasmania

Amazing getting photos before mankind arrived. Miraculous in fact.

Nothing like Queenstown over the ditch.

I have been to your one....not exactly remediated after the mining.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@KiwiBird Not remediated. But in 1000 years the trees will be back to what they were before the destruction of man.
There is regrowth happening slowly.
Stephie · 22-25, F
It is sad to see what kind of destruction mankind leaves to a once pristine nature and this is only one example of the scars that will never heal for as long as we live.

What are we leaving to future generations? Destruction, eroded landscapes and an ever reduced fauna and flora and all that on the name of progress.
This kind of thing is heartbreaking and angering at the the same time.
Human beings take and take and take and most don't stop to consider sustainabilty, or the fact that we are symbiotic with this planet and if the planet is sick then in the end we'll go down with it.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@mysteryespresso Man is very destructive in the name of progress
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
What interesting landscapes.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Gusman Agreed. We need the images to understand.
PatKirby · M
@Gusman

Kinda looks like a moonscape after the damage was done. A gues in about 1,000 years future archeologists will discover toxic soil buried deep in the Earth and plant warning signs to approach at your own risk. Pretty sure Mother Earth is a bit angry about it all by now.

Gusman · 61-69, M
@PatKirby Yes. Acid rain from the toxic fumes spewed out by the furnaces fell all over the landscape, ensuring any regrowth was killed off.
Teslin · M
Hopefully nature has a good memory.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@Teslin I think it does. All will be restored in at least 1000 years.
Teslin · M
@Gusman Much sooner if man stays away.
GoFish ·
That's greed at work 🙁
