Congratulations! It is a grueling hike to get there, but as your photo demonstrates, it is well worth it. Did you hike from South Lake to North Lake, or in the other direction?

@tindrummer Those wilderness experiences can be life-changing. Most of my deep wilderness experiences have been in the desert, carrying 50 pounds of water to enable me to go to areas where no one visits due to the difficulty. On getting ready to start one of my hikes, the Park Service told me I would be the first person there that year (and this was in December) and to report back to them on the availability of water in the few springs I would encounter.

@windinhishair I like experiencing desert canyon country like in Utah (touring, back roads, short hikes) but only backpacked Grand Canyon north rim.
What you did would be too daunting, including working too hard, for me. 🤓
I'm also a bit older than you.

@tindrummer I really enjoy Canyonlands National Park and some of the hikes there. Remember Aron Ralston, the guy who got trapped in a slot canyon when an 800 pound boulder fell on his arm and he had to cut his arm off with a penknife to escape and survive? That really hit home with me, because I had hiked the next canyon over the same year.
You can still get to some pretty amazing areas in canyon country by vehicle and day hikes. Death Valley is a great place for that too.

Awesome. Out of curiosity, what was the route? North Lake to South Lake? Lamarack Col? JMT north? Whichever way you were definitely in one of the sweetest spots in the Sierra in my opinion. And it looks like Fall which is THE window. Very cool. Hope it was a winner.
