I don’t know about Australia but there were state mental hospitals across America that were being used for MK ULTRA program experiments on children. The CIA was in charge of the program and the director was John Gittinger. He joined the CIA in 1950. He had a Master’s degree in Psychology. The program involved children starting at the age of 3 and trying to break their spirit and reprogram them to be able to control their behavior and make them into “sleepers”. The experiments included extreme torture and rape. He had worked at Central State Hospital ( which is about a mile and a half from my home) from 1948-1949 until he joined the CIA, which he retired from in 1978. The hospital’s director, Hayden Donahue, retired shortly after the next year. This was after the CIA’s experiments on children ended. About that time there was talk about down-sizing the number of patients at the hospital. They’ve announced closing this hospital soon (within a couple years) and building another one in Oklahoma City. Despite homeless and transients with mental problems wandering the streets here. The new hospital will have up to 300 beds. In the 1950’s Central State Hospital averaged thousands, up to 3000 patients.
There is a very lengthy and extremely detailed online article about the program. I forget what the website is called but I read it over a decade ago and it was disturbing to me. The original building, Hope Hall, that housed the patients was closed down eventually and employees have reported that lights go on and off by themselves and also door open and shut by themselves. Some believe the building is haunted.

The Asylums closed when immigration was open to Australia, and since no one is allowed in now the other world governments have not re-opened the asylums as of yet. Kind of waiting out your Government type deal. LOL
There is a beautiful island practically in my front yard, where loonies were shackled and medicated. Instead of released into the subway with pathetic apologists and coolies.
It's still there with Oh so much room!
