How do you know 3 mins is the time for boiling eggs?

It could be 3 mins 10 seconds… nobody really knows.

I boil mine for 5 minutes and that 5 minutes starts when I see the water boiling.

i boil mine for 6...but i don't put them in until the water is boiling...still yolky enough for me yet enough to kill the "egg snot"
