Not old enough to remember the 70s, but I do remember plenty of metal slides in / from the 80s. The only ones which were even remotely that tall were at amusement parks and had much higher sides.

Reminds me of one in Abergavenny.
Much taller than the ones in my local park

A lot higher than the ones I knew - and they, and open stairs like that, were too high for my lack of head for heights!

I never saw one that high.
But I have lifelong memories of jumping on those metal slides that were out in the hot summer sun all day and practically burning the skin right off my legs.
