People think they can just birth human beings unto this world, and stop being parents at some magical age and live in lala land

Never tending to their kids beyond that arbitrary number again.

How delusional and effing weird.

If you choose to be a parent, you are a parent for a life time. Their new responsibilities in life do not exempt you from being a parent.

Being parent never ends, it's a life-long obligation and responsibility we take up on us the day we decide to put our children into the world. I'll never regret, tho it's also a life of constantly worries for their well-doing.

Yep that’s my sister. She doesn’t care about her teenage kids at all. Never checks about their grades, never goes to a parent’s reunion, never teaches them about dangers, drugs, sex education and all that. It’s like they’re roommates. The other relatives such as me , my parents and my brother have to do all the basic teaching on how to be a decent human, and that’s when we can , because we don’t live close , so it’s just when we visit them or when they visit us that we can interact more. Thank goodness their father is kinda decent and tries to discipline them but they only see him on the weekends.

@SW-User few years from now she will be calling to vent about her children's problems.

My mother was very much a believer in personal responsibility and independence.
We were expected to carry our own loads and more.
When she was dying, hospice got involved. A therapist was sent to talk to her about death. Mom was terrified of dying.
The therapist asked what she feared. She said leaving her girls as she needed to know we would be alright.
My sister was 66 and i, 61.

It's pretty animalistic. Most animals do it that way. Another litter comes and they forget the previous one. 😅

Lots of lazy parents and those are the ones who will be dumped in nursing homes

@deadgerbil lazy and abusive. The peak of abuse to force people to exist in this world and pretend like you have no obligations towards them.

This is a problem I have with people here. We aren't meant to be like this.

This is such strange behaviour to me. Why have kids if the goal is to be rid of them when they are a young adults?

My kids will be my kids always and I will be there for them. Parenting never ends and they are my greatest joy.
