American in the UK

So im doing a thanksgiving dinner. It just feels strange to have thanksgiving every year and it be a massive holiday and then just not do it ever again. Last year i spent it in Liverpool as it was a but depressing not to have it with my family back home so i wanted a distraction but this year since now having my daughter also, i decided to keep the tradition alive and im making a thanksgiving dinner for us and my inlaws.

Theyre super excited because they only know thanksgiving as they see it on tv. I told them im not going crazy just doing the traditional things like the turkey, mash potatoes, gravy, dressing/stuffing, green bean casserole and a pumpkin pie and apple pie. Some roast veg.

I never made so much from scratch though. I usually just buy the pies 🥧 but you cant buy a pumpkin pie in the uk, not any ive seen. Cant even find the canned pumpkin pie filling. Gotta look for sugar pumpkins.

Anyways i hope i nail it. Much pressure when im use to my mom doing all the cooking.

Then you have to make the pumpkin pie, and you can find the ingredients, right? (not trying to complicate your preparations, I'm sure if it's not there, they won't even notice)

You have a head start, you can just design a glorious meal, and I think the root somewhere in giving is a beautiful thank you. Don't overthink it, cook to your hearts delight.

@DarkSideoftheMoon I like I can't make the exact dots together, we did talk some before, but not enough for me to really say that. I'm sure it's been a whirlwind for you, and you've mostly come out the other side, happy?
DarkSideoftheMoon · 31-35, F
@SW-User yeah definitely. When we spoke i was in the US and since then i moved to the UK, got married and had a baby. So a lot has happened but its been fulfilling

They sell the pumpkin pie filling in Waitrose. Your other half and in laws can help with the food prep?
DarkSideoftheMoon · 31-35, F

DarkSideoftheMoon · 31-35, F
@V00doo thanks. Havent done a turkey in years. Usually just a chicken some sundays
SW-User
You can buy the pastry so that you only have to make the filling, that will save some time, we also don't have pumpkin pies or filling here in Ireland
DarkSideoftheMoon · 31-35, F
@Ontheroad my last resort was going to be a sweet potato pie 🥧
Ontheroad · M
@DarkSideoftheMoon a good alternative - I've had sweet potato pie that tastes more like pumpkin pie than a lot of pumpkin pies I've had.
DarkSideoftheMoon · 31-35, F
@Ontheroad i know exactly what you mean
pianoplayingsteve · 31-35, M
Celebrating fighting a war against Britain to gain independence from being controlled by British law, in Britain that is under the control of British law
DarkSideoftheMoon · 31-35, F
@pianoplayingsteve i knew someone would point that out. I just want to give thanks 😅
