Why has mask wearing become a contentious religious issue when it’s just common sense?

Like this post I read on social media yesterday:

“Christians who gather without a face mask are obviously placing all their trust and faith in the Lord Jesus...which Satan doesn't want to see take place, hence persecution. The Word of God warns us of this. Are we still willing to be brave enough to not wear them?”

Why is basic public safety a spiritual issue?

It's the same reason why it's a political issue. People who have a propensity towards fear latch on to all kinds of nonsense to assuage that fear. But you can see how it works in the example you shared. "Brave enough to not wear them." That's what they tell themselves so they don't have to face the reality. From the political side, one of the big one's is "freedom." It's the actions of the cowardly and selfish.

@Ynotisay Stupid enough not to wear them, it seems... and they want freedom to infect as many people as they like!

@walabby Their take on 'freedom' is pretty interesting, huh? They have the freedom to not wear masks which means the rest of us don't have the freedom to get back to normalcy faster. Seems like it's a one way street when it comes to 'freedom.'

@Ynotisay Seems like it. The "Freedom" coin does have two sides...

"Spiritual" and "religious" are completely different. Religion is based on fear and hate and feeling superior to anyone who doesn't believe what you believe. It's more like politics and always has been.
Yeah i mean, if they still look both ways before they cross the street then by their logic they're not placing all their trust and faith in god.

It's just stupid.

Basically because of very poor leadership from either Biden or Trump on the issues of basic health response to a virus !

Great article written online by Dan Rather.....must be six months ago now, on how people need to get used to a new way of living safely by simply washing their hands regularly and wearing a face mask if out in public.

The song remains the same. Pity so many pick the most insignificant aspects of it and attempt to tie it to their’rights’

{@scottr] ]i assume these are christian conservatives . basically what it boils down to the fact they do not want to wear masks .there are looking for any moral justification to back up there hatred of mask wearing

This issue fell across the political divide like everything does in America these days. For many people it is common sense, but for some its another shady instance where the government is not being fully transparent, and they don't trust the government, nor the media unfortunately. To be fair, I don't trust the government or media either, but I am pretty pragmatic on the subject of wearing a mask.

Not all Christians would agree with not wearing the mask and the Bible does say to obey authorities unless its against Christianity's beliefs which wearing a mask isn't.

Masks are akin to putting up a chain link fence to keep out mosquito's.
hunkalove · 61-69, M
@curiosi They seem to be working.

@hunkalove When it's the right one for the situation & it's worn correctly, yes.

The have forgotten the verse that says "Thou shall not put the Lord thy God to the test".

Its just common sense to cut down. On transmission rate it should not be a political or religious issue too many people think rights are being violated wearing a mask its common sense
Being Christian doesn’t rule out common sense.
