Can we just get along?

I've seen alot of hate towards Americans here and I just want to say that I am an American but I vibe or I don't vibe, with people, individually, for who they are, not where they come from and I don't clump people together as Those Americans, or Those Europeans or Those Middle Easterners, or Those Native Americans, etc. Not everyone is 'typical' to where they're from. So let's be friends, or at least civil towards each other, mmkay? 🙂🤟🫂🌈

Well done. Take out the politics and we’re all just people with similar interests.

@Coldplay Exactly

I have to confess that I have not always been impartial in my judgment of nationals of a particular country and have tended to put them all into the same category without differentiating their political or religious views.

There are the occasional black sheep in every society but they should never take the precedence when having opinions on an entire nation and only based on the negativity those black sheep propagate.

Nobody is perfect and I do belong in that category of people that still needs to improve.

@Stephie Much respect to you for your honesty! 💕

I agree. This is Similar Worlds after all. I think we're all bound to have something in common with each other, despite being from all over
PJBegonia · 51-55, F
I couldn't agree more. We're all just human beings.
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
@PJBegonia "People are people, so why should it be... You and I should get along so awfully?"
I admit that there are things about the U.S.that I don’t like: the MAGAs, homelessness, the constant shootings and availability of guns. So I can hear criticism about that sort of thing and agree with it. But the folks who just hate Americans on GP, think we’re all stupid, bigoted and never travel, etc. that gets old after awhile, and I stop listening. 🙄

why do people feel a need to group/categorize everything. 🤷‍♂ its fine to organize your pantry, books, record and cd collection, but is there a need to put groups of people in boxes, label them and store them away? 🤔 Maybe you dont like someone who is from Canada 🤷‍♂ That doesnt have to mean you dont like Canadians, right?
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
In the words of the Late Rodney King: "Can't we all get along? For the old people and the kids?"

Yes,here in Australia whenever I hear someone say that something or someone is "typically American",I usually point out that America is a very big place,with a huge diversity of people and regions,and a population something like 13 times greater than Australia's - which particular Americans are you referring to?
Tumbleweed · F
@craig7 Mostly on posts about politics but I've also seen some memes mentioning 'The Americans'...

I don’t think there is such a thing as a typical American, or a typical Mexican, or Canadian, or …

The beauty of freedom is that we are free to just be ourselves, period. One of my favorite sayings: I’m unique, like everyone else :)
Tumbleweed · F
@Heartlander I agree, but that's the way it's always worded.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@Tumbleweed It may have been before your time, but the term "ugly American" found its way into our language to characterize how Europeans saw American tourist flooding Europe in the 1960s. I don't know if that term was created by Europeans or came from within the US as way to confess and apologize for financial and personal freedom. Sort of like the White Privilege thing today.

But .... I'm a big fan of Andre Rieu and have probably seen far-far more than a few of his performances on YouTube, and on balance, what seems to be the best crowd-pleasing pieces are songs that came from the USA. So the freedom that lets us be ugly maybe goes along with the freedom to be beautiful.

@Tumbleweed I got your 6 on this ;-)
I’ve become addicted to YouTube reaction channels, preferably from other countries. Guess what? We all (or most of us) think the same. Like people.

I'm good with that. I've spent a lot of time in the states. I remember having one person in a 24 hour restaurant tell me "if you don't like the States leave". I have places I like and places I dislike, I'm not a fan of the north east US. That one person showed me the ignorance that I've rarely seen when in the US. I found it humorous when in Los Angeles to say "I'm from Canada" and they replied oh that's just north of here a bit. I learnt "LA Canada" is one of the counties in the greater LA are

I am not always proud of my government nor do I believe in everything be elected officials stand for. But one thing I do stand tall for is this country in this flag and if anybody disrespects it to my face they will find out exactly how so. So in my book they can be proud of where they're from but all this s******* on America I'm damn tired of it and I do not want to use anybody's head this morning to go bowling. Have a great afternoon everybody and play nice

People who bash others based on nationality are, in my opinion, angry small-minded souls, and I'm not going to be part of that circle.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
Very well said. Oh that more people would think similarly.
When everybody agrees, only one person is doing the thinking. 😌

There will always be hateful people in the world just the times we’re living in 🤷🏾‍♂
Tumbleweed · F
@Moneyonmymind Yes and it's very sad. We're all in this together and nobody makes it out alive so why hate??
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
@Tumbleweed it gives the haters validation and makes their crummy lives seem valuable
Tumbleweed · F
@Moneyonmymind Good point. I pity that kind...

@ninjavu I apologize for my people, they irritate me too sometimes. That's why I stay completely away from the whole politic thing & just be me. Thank you for your honestty & politeness 🙂
ninjavu · 51-55, M
@Tumbleweed No apology necessary from you. Probably not even from the people I don't like and block. They're just people, and we're all flawed. The part that makes me crazy -- and it applies to anyone, not just Americans -- is the ones who claim they are right and everyone else is wrong.

Politics, sadly, are a necessary part of all cultures. It's just unfortunate that SW users can't indicate a preference for their own jurisdiction's politics and ignore all others. Considering how much bigger India is than the United States, imagine if all we all saw on here was Indian politics!
Tumbleweed · F
@ninjavu Right?!
