Assuming most cover songs are newer musicians paying tribute to an older musician's song. I'm considering a "reverse" cover to be an older musician paying tribute to a newer musician's song.

Phil Collins did a good version of Bob Dylan's Times are 'a Changin'.

I piece The Byrds version of Mr Tambourine Man which is also a Dylan cover but released before the original charted, i think.

@Ambersky yeah, I think Trent also compared the experience to losing a gf to another guy. he still impresses me that he could see it that way and still be gracious about it.

@dirge Yeah that's the only one that came to mind. Originally I didn't even know that Cash was the one who covered it. Didn't have the Google search engine back then and though I knew who Johnny Cash was, I didn't listen to his music. I just assumed NIN covered it and Cash's was just having a resurgence, until a few years later.
