What do you like about or remember from the 70s?
The first 45 single I bought was Alice Cooper's School's Out and it was important to me at the time as I was leaving school that summer. 1972 at fifteen years old. Before that I used to listen to my friends records as I didn't have a player of my own but then my dad bought me a Phillips one on my birthday and I treasured it.
When I was 17 I became swept up in David Cassidy mania and bought his first album Cherish. I only saw him once in concert, it was at White City in London and I couldn't believe I had a ticket in my hot little hands to go and see him live with my cousin, another huge fan.
The sad thing about the day was that a young girl, Bernadette Whelan, was injured as fans surged forward crushing her. She later died in hospital. I remember reading in one of our national newspapers, that her parents were turning her bedroom, which had his poster and pictures all over her walls, into a shrine for her and David. One of the headlines even read that she "died" for him.
I wondered if her parents ever found enough peace to change her room, taking the pictures down and maybe redecorating it in a nice colourful way. To leave it as time standing still would never have helped them move on.
