He had a lot of great satiric songs. Being a recovering Catholic, I love Vatican Rag. The Boy Scout Marching Song. Fight On for Dear Ol' Harvard. A new military song for the Army, the title of which I can't recall at the moment. Then he had one about vacationing in Latin America and attending a bull fight with the line about it being the most exciting thing he had seen "since my dog Rover got run over. The driver did it was such skill and grace, he was awarded both ears and the tail."

I had all of his "records," and book of written music. Many of us knew the words by heart, of all his music. A brilliant mathematician then entertainer.

Tom Lehrer's songs are an abiding memory from my childhood in London. My parents had all his records and played them regularly.

A comedic genius!

I learned about Lehrer when I was in college and I've loved his nerdy humor ever since! The Elements, New Math, Plagiarize; all great stuff!

I never heard that before! Thanks for sharing. I'm actually not sure I've heard any of his work up till now. I remember Mark Russell, though. Seems kind of the same thing.

In times of trouble, dark humour can be very uplifting and a release.

Poisoning The Pigeons probably wouldn't be released today. But you gotta love a guy who looked at the periodic table and thought "There's a song there!"
