I got a bill for one cent from the cable-internet provider yesterday. I paid the bill by check over a month ago and they didn’t receive it. I kept getting duns so I called them and it had been about 11 days since I mailed it and they still didn’t receive it. They told me I could give them the check account number and they’d withdraw and pay it so I wouldn’t get a late fee tacked to the next bill. About 3 days later they received the check but apparently it was one penny short (maybe they raised the bill by one cent, I don’t know).

We have a check for one cent. A royalty payment for a 1/10,000,000,000,000 interest in some place in Texas.

:) how about sending them a check for 2 cents. And wait and see how they handle it. Will they send you a refund check for one cent?

50 years ago I worked for a business services organization that provided billing accounting services for a number of companies. Our charges were in part based on “per transaction” . Mostly between 5 and 7 cents per transaction that had to be keyed in and verified. Recording check payments is a difficult transaction to automate. Just watch a bank teller process a deposit. In todays world easily a 10 cent cost.

I would be careful as to who you give any bank info to over the phone. There are alot of scam artists out there.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Adrift it’s not like they called me and told me to do that. I have their phone number and call them.

@Adrift They’re sending e-mails that my Sam’s Club membership is cancelled because my renewal didn’t go through. And they have done it for a couple weeks now. Funny cause I’m going to Sam’s Club every week and the cashier never mentions it when she rings up my bill.
I would call, ask them what their problem is, and threaten to cancel my service if they don't remove it.
Of course, this is all contingent on getting ahold of a real person.
I wouldn’t have to.. the removed 1-2 cent coins. Everything’s goes up or down in 5c increments..

1c bill. = zero

As long as you don't get a $10 late fee for one penny, then pay it next month.

If it was I that short a penny, I'd let them send the collectors.

Call them and see if they'll wave the penny.
MarineBob · 56-60, M
Bill me next month
Heartlander · 80-89, M
Sounds like the old computer rounding thing.

If you ignore it the next bill will have a $15+ late fee for a total of either $15.01 or $15.00, depending on how the computer felt that day :)
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Heartlander yes am thinking that they will do that. Even for a penny.
🤦🏼‍♂

Send them a check for next month's payment + a cent.
