Getting a behind the scenes scoop on that play my sister’s gonna star in in June 🧐

Sis is gonna be starring in the musical Firebringer originally by YouTube musical theatre company StarKid Productions next month. She’s been to several rehearsals by now and she’s giving me all the deets on what’s going on.

First, she tells me that she was first considered for the role of Molag — the narrator and a big comic relief character in the play. But that they ultimately decided her charismatic energy was better-suited for her character Jemilla, who’s the logical leader character of the story. After having watched the musical (which can be watched in its entirety for free on YouTube), my sister would have made a great Molag, but at the same time, that would have been a terrible underutilization of her talent!

My sister’s a renown singer in our area. No, she’s not an actress, but Molag has no musical numbers in that play! How are you gonna bring a popular singer (locally, lol) into your musical and not have her sing?! That’s like bringing in Clint Eastwood and not having him be a total bad-ass, even in his old age. It makes no sense! Anyway, sis admitted she is a bit nervous about doing an acting role, even though she’s no stranger to live performances. But I think she’s gonna nail this to perfection!

I’m not done yet! There’s a comedic moment in that play where another character hits her in the leg with a spear just to show how strong it is while my sister’s character Jemilla gives a profanity-laden reaction to it. My sister told me that they were rehearsing that part just today as I’m posting this and that she suggested that she get hit with the prop for real just to make it look legit and more humorous. But everyone else decided against it, saying they didn’t want to risk her getting legitimately injured during the live performance and unable to continue. Fair enough, I guess. But that would have been funny!

Lastly, she added that this production of the musical is going to have a much bigger budget than the original and most other versions of it. Meaning production is going to be broadway level with many props and better costumes. I was getting a little nervous when she was telling me this because I’ve been on this site talking all about it on this site and it was sounding like something really compromising as far as my personal privacy is concerned, lol. But then she told me it’s gonna be strictly a theater show and not recorded or anything. Whew!

The more she tells me about this upcoming musical, the more excited I become! Ugh, I cannot wait until I actually get to see it!
