Anyone into headphones?

The Focal Elegia's were $900 when they came out, and now they're down to 400 on amazon. They got great reviews even at 900, so at 400 they're a steal. I didn't know how much I'd like them being closed back but I've been loving them, it's crazy how nostalgic music seems through them. I highly recommend them if you like good quality audio, especially if you need closed back because of listening to music around other people. They're also very sensitive so they don't require an amp like most at that level, although they are more dynamic with one.

I got a pair of Steelseries Arctis 5 headphone/mic for PC for my birthday last year. I'm not really sure on how they stack up against Turtle Beach headphones, but my last set was Corsair, and the one foam thing that's on the ear just fell off.

I usually swear by Turtle Beach but the Arctis 5 headphones are doing just as well I think. Not really a big fan of RGB, the headphones have RGB on them, so I just have it set to a mid blue color that's easy on the eyes.

@Anon066 Well, once I got 10 to the way I want it, it's a lot better, but it still has flaws. I use what's called Open Shell for my start menu, and made my start menu look like Windows 95. Because that's what I'm used to. It never had to change honestly. And then I turned off all the extra crap they loaded on the taskbar, cortana, news, weather, I literally have it so it's just the basic stuff that is on the taskbar in Windows 7 Pro lol.

Lately I haven't been having too many problems, the screensaver would stop working, but that's been fixed (probably an update) and then here lately I'll get a message like, Malwarebytes is turned off. Like not all programs are starting up with Windows like they should be. But that's been ongoing since Windows XP.

@twiigss damn lol i dont have the patience to fuck with all that shit, i just deal with the annoyances rather than fix them. the only problems ive had with 10 are some weird bandwidth usage issues and network adapter issues, but the network adapter stuff might just be the motherboard.

@Anon066 Well yea, most software issues I really don't have control over. Those programs are marked to start up with Windows, but sometimes they don't. So to me it's a microsoft issue. microcrap can't be bothered to actually do real work and make their OS work right lol.

But yea I deal with a lot actually, but I'm like my brother, something goes wrong and if we feel intervention can fix it, we'll jump in and fix it lol.

I use Grado headphone...th3 325 series....on the ear and open back. I think they're great. With the open back, I can hear when someone calls me or there's a noise behind me. I only use closed back phones when I'm going on a plane.
I'll look into the Elegia ones
Anon066 · 31-35, M
@Midlifemale grados are classics lol.

I use a dragonfly dac with the Grados.
Anon066 · 31-35, M
@Midlifemale my best friend used that for years lol. i have a schitt magni and im super happy with it, it was only like 80 bucks open box and it drives every headphone ive tried on it.

Over the years, I've owned, among others, AKG, Koss, Beyer Dynamic, and Sennheiser. My only issue with the higher-end models was that they were delicate. So, I grabbed Audio-Technica ATH-M50xs, because that's what the studio I was working in used. The foam that goes over the ears is dryrotting, but they're several years old now. I'm guess I'm just used to pro stuff rather than audiophile.

@uncalled4 ya ive got some akgs, a cheap pair of monoprice retros, sennheiser 6xx, hifiman sundaras. the sundaras build quality is pretty awful for $350 but these focals are built nice. the m50s are definitely a solid studio headphone, ive recommended those to a lot of people looking for a cheapish but accurate pair of closed backs.

Yeah, I like them.

I have a few pairs... Last month I was at an antique shop and I saw a pair of vintage Electrophone Model 02 stereo headphones and even though they cost me $16.00, I didn't want to pass up the opportunity to buy them.
Do your ears get hot? I prefer earphones for this reason
Anon066 · 31-35, M
@BeefySenpie i havent had that issue with these, theyre super comfortable compared to my others. there's a lot of room for your ears because the cups are pretty deep.

i like earphones too but thats a whole other rabbit hole im hesitant to go too far down lol, i have a pair of moondrop aria's i fucking love but can't find them. im thinking of getting the blessing 2 dusk's from moondrop but now that i have these elegias i dont know if i can justify $350 on earbuds when these are comfortable enough to wear forever. ill probably give in when its warm enough to start having to mow the lawn lol.

$900 for headphones is insanity
Anon066 · 31-35, M
@DDonde they get much more expensive than that lol. i only paid 300 for these tho.

@Anon066 Taking notes! :) Thank you for the tip.

@Anon066 I would edit my reply...but I'm not allowed to. lol
I cannot/will not do eir buds. I need a full head set. lol
Anon066 · 31-35, M
@SW-User hmmmmm check out the monoprice retros. theyre about 30, and you can spend another 20 for a better pair of pads (brainwavz xl round) that make them even better. they were my main pair for a long time even though i had 250 dollar sennheisers and 350 dollar hifimans lol. theyre just so comfy and sound way better than the price.

I use these

Anon066 · 31-35, M
@Lilnonames do you like the virtual surround aspect? some people love it and some people hate it from what ive seen.
