Is “Take it to the Limit” by the Eagles a love song?

The only line that makes me think it is is “Will you still be mine?” Other than that it doesn’t seem like it is. What do you think?

“Take It to the Limit” is a track which some may interpret as a love song. That is it can be deduced, specifically based on certain lyrics at the beginning, that the singer is addressing a romantic interest.
Yet according to Randy Meisner, this song is meant to point to a larger, philosophical idea. Or as he explained it, the phrase “take it to the limit one more time” is an encouragement towards persistent effort. He’s basically saying that even if a person is content with his or her experiences and achievements, they should still push themselves to reach an even higher goal.

To me the song is about a guy who has spent younger life seeking thrills / experiences and not allowing any woman to catch him to make him settle down.. But when you start getting older the excitement of freedom and excess starts to lose it's excitement and more and more He starts having thoughts of woman in the past who probably loved him and would have settled down with him and had a family with him... He has a level of regret that he cannot seem to stop burning the candle at both ends, he cannot give up his running away and running trying to find new experiences.. Even though he is getting too old for this kind of lifestyle.. But he is addicted to the path..

Another song that has a very similar theme is Against The Wind from Bob Seager..

Put me on a highway, show me a sign, take it to the limit……. Either about leaving a relationship or about driving very quickly.

I think the song is about sadness.

I think it’s about a state of mind. Follow your heart and push for all you desire. You can either sit and wait on the sidelines or push as much as you can to get what you want. Been there and it’ was a very happy time in my life.

The dude is mostly talking about himself. He does appear to be a romantic, though a self-indulged one. I don't think that makes it a love song.

I don't think so

I always thought it was about regret and not being able to change the things that caused the regret in the first place, but with a kind of acceptance of one’s nature.

Love this track. I tracked down and bought the same kind of ride cymbal that Don Henley uses on this song.

The lyrics are ambiguous enough that they could be about anything.
