R.E.M. is the soundtrack of my youth! I was exactly the right age at the right time.
The way they developed a following at first was by a lot of airplay on college radio. I was a DJ at my campus radio station in the 80s.
Let me look for a song that hasn't already been posted or mentioned....

Everybody hurts will be on everybody's list somewhere.
Especially it's video which I thought was pretty good.
It's the end of the world as we know it. That's pretty clever.
Man on the moon is a really affectionate tribute to an often misunderstood comic.
Bad day......yeah there are many !

Here's a live version at Glastonbury in 2003 of "Everybody Hurts" that you might like. There was definitely a bond between the band and the audience of tens of thousands that night.

You're quite welcome . It's a song that has a lot of meaning to me as well. 🤗

Hey Perry. Of course! Losing My Religion! Although one of my favorite bands does a cover I like even better. Lacuna Coil. Great name. It's the spiral of absence left when an organic being decays away. The inevitable oblivion

It's hard for me to lock a favorite.
I really love E Bow the Letter and Country Feedback. There is something about Stipes voice that just gets me.

@NigelDoes I mean look heres one of the verses:
Let it rain, rain, rain
Save me from myself again
Wash away my ugly sins
Opposing thumb, dorsal fin
That monkey died for my grin
Bring my happy back again
Like obviously the themes is tying religion and evolution, coz like opposing thumb, dorsal fin, and it is like tying evolution to Jesus, so if humanity is evolved from Monkeys then Jesus was a Monkey, and who ever heard of a monkey thinking of such an abstract idea like one monkey dying for the sins of all the others.... Or maybe I'm totally off the mark and thats not what he's singing about at all

I am not familiar with that song, but I'm going to check it out now. I think Michael Stipe was very underrated lyricist.
