Yes, but it's not the artist as a "star", but what they are singing, and how well, that matters for me.

I can listen to an operatic aria or "art song" in German or Italian, with no idea what the words mean - but can also hear rap or heavy-metal shouted in "English" and find it equally incomprehensible.

The difference is that I can recognise and respect the enormous skill shown by the "classical" singer, totally lacking in the rapper or rocker.
