What artist or band do you always recommend when someone asks for a music recommendation?

Me? I always come out with The Dan Reed Network.....always stated as Prince meets Bon Jovi, but they're more than that. Never became the 'Next Big Thing', whilst the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Faith No More - pretty much contemporaries - did so.

So, yes...always them.

People that have heard their music, particularly their 2nd album 'Slam', always really like it.
