..and i wasn't even a fan when this was released. I mean, who really wasn't a fan, even if just secretly. Prince really did cut through a lot of genres.
The first time I'd heard this song was in the movie. We loaded up in 3 cars and saw it at the coliseum drive-in, Oakland, Ca. Summer of '84 was definitely the height of my punk rock phase (that still lingers today). Thats why i say i wasnt really a fan. (Lol I just had a vision of my copy of MDC, Dead Cops album sleeve. I'm sure its still the sleeve from Purple Rain. My sister probably still has her Purple Rain album stuffed into my MDC sleeve )
My gf of the previous 2 years and I had broken up a few weeks prior and i found out she was dating another guy already. It fuckin hurt so I really felt the agony in his performance
