Unpopular music opinion...

I've tried to get into Soundgarden but I just can't. I just can't get into Chris Cornells screaming. I try to keep an open mind with music but Soundgarden is one band I can't enjoy.

What about Temple of the Dog or Audioslave? There are a lot of good sounding solo songs of his online. ..like the one where he blends the lyrics of Metallica's One with the music of U2's One. ..or Prince's Nothing Compares to You (made mainstream by Sinead O'Connor)

I get it about the screaming. Tbh, Soundgarden is my least favorite of the big 4 or 5 grundge bands. But there really is a good voice in there.

The one they give so much grundge credit to that i really cant understand, supposedly kicked off the whole grundge scene (but we all know it really started in San Francisco when all the hardcore punk bands started growing out their hair, shooting up and crossing over), anyway, Mother Lovebone. They dont sound the least but grundgy to me at all. ...more like hippy dippy Blind Melony. ..

@Jayciedubb Agreed.

I have a probably unpopular Soundgarden opinion. I don't like Black Hole Sun all that much. My fav of their songs is Black Rain.

But in that one, Chris only does his yelling vocals

@caPnAhab i like Rusty Cage. It'sgot that machine sound to it, you know? Like a locomotive leaving the station and getting up to speed.

I thought superunknown sounded a little bit like the Beatles Strawberry Fields or something. Much more refined but also more mellow

Chris had an amazing voice depending on the songs . Now a band like nirvana i just can't enjoy[media=https://youtu.be/725iONdAu9Q]

@kodiac i should have expected a Buckethead fan to share a song that features Tom Morello like this. Have you ever seen him performing with Bruce Springsteen. I think it was a Rock n Roll Hall of Fame show. They do that folk song The Ghost of Tom Joad.

It's funny and badass at the same time. ..just because Morello sticks out like a sore thumb compared to BS and E st. They're looking all clean cut and professional with their guitars all clean, trimmed and tidy, then there's TM, looking like he just woke up, playing a guitar all tagged up and strings running wild like the whiskers of an old alley tom cat.

But then TM cuts loose with his solo and they all have to bow down and let him show them how its done.

I'll try to share it but it might not work. This app is glitchy af for me and sometimes it wont clear my last shared video. Apologies in advance if required

Try some of Chris's softer acoustic stuff. His voice is angelic.

I haven't even heard of the band/group/artist before 🤔
LordBarbossa · 36-40, T
@Jayciedubb I ment anxiety, yeah.
90's music gives me anxiety bc it reminds me of my childhood, not bc of the music itself
Jayciedubb · 56-60, M
@LordBarbossa i see. I didnt mean to make light of your issue. I know we've all got our own crosses to bear. May i share my perspective with you? if it doesnt fit, forget it. But its my belief that its not good to let our tragedies define us. We're received better when were known for rising above and persevering in spite of tragedy. What ive noticed is that the difference is like taking your place at the top vs having to crawl up from the dungeon your tragedy keeps you in. You derseve to be at the top. You derseve to be loved and respected. Sympathy and pitty are ok, but they're not necessarily love and respect and if you get in a habit of accepting them or expecting them as such, you run the risk of only ever getting sympathy or pitty from someone you're trying to make a deeper connection with.

Like I said, if any of this stuff applies, I hope it helps. But if it doesn't, just drop it here and forget I said anything about it. I tried to explain the same thing to my son a couple months ago and I missed the mark, and almost lost him to his own hand when he had been confusing Sympathy For Love and his heart kept getting broken. I'm happy to say he's in a much better place now and a healthy relationship with a woman who loves him and respects him and I've never been the I Told You So type but I was so happy to tell him I told you so LOL

Damn, I wasn't planning I'm bleeding out like this, I just thought maybe ...
LordBarbossa · 36-40, T
@Jayciedubb thank you. I manage alright for the most part, but some days are harder than others. Then again, who doesn't have bad days, right?

I'm so sorry to learn about your son. Very glad to hear he's doing better, and it sounds like you're a loving caring parent. I'm sure he feels that too, and appreciates it.
Depressing anyway
