Brian Wilson Suffering From Dementia as Reps Seek Conservatorship

Brian Wilson‘s longtime business partners are seeking to become the Beach Boys singer’s co-conservators, weeks after the death of his wife, Melinda Wilson.

In a petition filed Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, Wilson’s publicist Jean Sievers and business manager LeeAnn Hard said the 81-year-old musician has been diagnosed with a “major neurocognitive disorder” and is “unable to provide for his own personal needs for physical health, food, clothing or shelter.” Melinda, Wilson’s wife of 28 years, tended to her husband’s needs — but that came to an end when she died on Jan. 30 at age 77.

The petition also detailed the Grammy winner’s declining mental capacity. The singer’s psychiatrist, Dr. Stephen S. Marmer, revealed in a declaration also filed Wednesday that Wilson is taking medication for dementia and is incapable of self-administering medicine and sticking to his medication schedule.
Very sad but I’m actually surprised it took this long. Great movie about him starring John Cusack, Love and Mercy.

@OlderSometimesWiser his wife’s passing seems to be a critical factor here.
@Badjujubee He hasn’t been well for years but that kind of loss can certainly put the nail in the proverbial coffin.

I saw a picture of him from today and he looks terrible. I just hope he's able to kick back and enjoy the rest of his life. He's battled considerable mental illness his whole life, likely resulting from their dad's mental and physical abuse(all three Wilson brothers did). He's one of my heroes. I even got to speak with him on the phone a few times.

A music genius who has been damaged and exploited for decades. Its impossible to tell if anyone actually has his best interests in mind now...😷

Sad my mom had dementia and they are unable tocare or make decisions for themselves

By the way, calling Brian Wilson merely the Beach Boys "singer", understates, by a wide margin, his contributions. He was the composer, producer, arranger, and singer.

NativePortlander1970 Must’ve had an epiphany lol 😂

I feel bad about the way that just went down now. I wish I could have handled that differently. I hope they’er ok. 😔
Cocaine and alcohol will do that.

@Badjujubee I have seen both alcohol AND genetic related dementia like crazy, my aunt's husband had nine siblings, ALL died of alcohol related dementia, except my aunt's husband who died in a blizzard related crash, their mother drank heavily while carrying them. The two genetic were my mother's cousimln and his mother, my mother's aunt.
