Blimey, I have no idea! Late-1950s....

That was in the Rock 'n' Roll era. Other American styles like Jazz, swing bands and the so-called "crooners" were still popular - jazz in its umpteen shades still is - though I would not have known that at the time.

I didn't really start to notice this new-fangled "Pop Music" till I was about 11 and The Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc. burst onto the scene.

@Wiseacre Why do we like some things and not others. Personal preference. No other reason. I also dislike heavy metal, punk, grunge, blue cheese, oysters.
We all avoid those things we dislike and gravitate to those we enjoy.
