I like vinyl records.

And I have a decent collection and it's still growing. Over a thousand right now

I used to live next door to a vinyl record collector. He had about 3,000 albums and about 20,000 singles.

I really need to downsize my massive vinyl stacks. Been acquiring 'em all my adult life.
A few thousand,I guess.I don't buy many now that it's so niche or hip or whatever. $$$
But I'm thinking of going back to Dave's to snap up that old Jajouka LP because it it looks so much cooler than the CD I hardly ever listen to,heh heh.

What are a few of your top faves in your impressive stash -or any you might currently seek...?
dubkebab · 56-60, M
@Axeroberts The Mobile Fidelity pressings? Yeah, those set a high standard.
I have a few by Coltrane,Miles and Bernie Kraus that I treasure.

I think I left my parents copy of the White Album (with poster) at a party to impress some girl when I was around 14,oof. But it worked,we made out.

My German import minty condition old 'piper at the gates of dawn' is probably the finest in my Floyd section...3 bucks at a yardsale, along with 'Radioactivity' by Kraftwerk with a complete sheet of stickers (!)

But as much as I'm a geek about such a variety of music,it's the odd few which have special sentimental personal value, like my autographed Lee Perry and Slits that mean the most to me.
Oh,and all my Adrian Sherwood stuff.
They can bury me with all that I guess. Music lovers are a weird bunch.

@dubkebab I can relate. I have a six eye copy of Kind of Blue. German import of Harvest. Japanese copy of Led Zeppelin III with a 45 of Hey Hey What can I do. Brand new but analog pressings of The Wall and Rubber soul. Many copies on the original labels too
dubkebab · 56-60, M
@Axeroberts Japanese records are very tasty.
I'm still confused about how vinyl records work. I know they're made with machines now, but I tried researching how the first vinyl records were made and I didn't really find a clear answer
Axeroberts · 56-60, M
@GoToTheCompound maybe on paper. Of course things like signal to noise ratio is a huge plus for digital but as for the musical quality there is no comparison. The toe tapping quality per ce

@GoToTheCompound Vibes.

@dubkebab I found this video that describes it more, I guess it was wax tubes at first and by the time vinyl records became popular in the 30s is when the microphone and other machines were invented to make the vinyl records

Had a collection,
By now my daughters have it.
Aysel · F
I just sold some of my vinyl records, and now I'm regretting my decision.
Axeroberts · 56-60, M
@Aysel the original analog vinyl still sounds best
Aysel · F
@Axeroberts I'm pitching myself, but I just didn't have the space.
Axeroberts · 56-60, M
@Aysel they do take up much more space than a thumb drive that's for sure
Jimmy2016 · 61-69, M
🤔......Awesome! I only have 350 albums............In Peaches Record crates.........Nothing better than Vinyl!!
Axeroberts · 56-60, M
@Jimmy2016 still a good sized collection. And they actually changed the size of milk cartons here many years ago because people were keeping them for their records
TrunkZ · 56-60, M
Very cool. Well maintained vinyl on a decent system is so satisfying.
Gangstress · 41-45, F
Thats an amazing collection
Axeroberts · 56-60, M
@Gangstress and about 90% were purchased when albums were just a buck or two. I had a friend years ago who had over 3000!
Gangstress · 41-45, F
@Axeroberts my dad would be in envy.
Great collection. Enjoy them
jackson55 · M
Cool. I have almost 2000. And two turntables.
Aami1 · 26-30, F

Axeroberts · 56-60, M

@jshm2 all the good stuff with some hidden gems 👍
ShiftingGears · 46-50, M
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
I don't think I have that much, but it is surely several hundred. I never got rid of my LPs in the 80s.

What's your turntable setup like?
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@Axeroberts Old school Technics 1200, NOS ADC XLM Improved MKII cartridge/styli, NAD preamp, I also have another Technics SL-D202 from '81 or so, Grado cartridge.
Axeroberts · 56-60, M
@uncalled4 oh yeah. That sounds like a decent matched setup
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@Axeroberts It's not bad. I just think it's funny how people were dumping vinyl in the 80s and now lots of people are paying through the nose for things like the 1st pressing of Zep II. Vinyl is far from a perfect medium, but it took a while for some CD issues to catch up. Some early ones were made from inferior tapes. Later ones tried awful noise reduction, today things are brickwalled and compressed to death.
OverTheHill · 61-69, M
I'm afraid to say that I tossed most of my vinyl back in the 80's. I kept some, but I switched to Compact Disc. I could kick myself for throwing out some of it now.
HOLY CRAP! How big is your library?
Axeroberts · 56-60, M
@Guardian over a thousand
@Axeroberts impressive!
caesar7 · 61-69, M
OMG!! That is awesome!! Good for you!! Are they all original label recordings?
Axeroberts · 56-60, M
@caesar7 not all but I have many that are. The original labels like Decca and Parliphone sound best. Of course Original Master are better quality.
