“Word Crimes” – Weird Al Yankovic

[media=https://youtu.be/8Gv0H-vPoDc]
Weird Al’s parody of Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines”. It’s one of my favorites by Yankovic.

And on this day in 2018, Weird Al Yankovic received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Speaking at the ceremony, Weird Al told the crowd, "It’s…an honor knowing that my name is gonna be walked on, spit on, and let's face it, urinated on for generations to come. That's a legacy, my friends."

Of course, his legacy will be much greater than that. His song parodies are the gold standard for this type of music.

He’s been killing it for SUCH A LONG TIME.

I Lost on Jeopardy is my personal favorite (and also least favorite haha) - and it’s crazy to think that he wrote this BACK WHEN DON PARDO WAS THE HOST

@KingofPizza2 He sure has. The song you mentioned was released in 1984--nearly 40 years ago. Really hard to believe it was that long ago.

@Rutterman So well done. I'd heard of him but not that song.

I always liked Smells like Nirvana 😅

@Lilymoon "Smells Like Nirvana" is another great one by him. I just listened to it again. It still cracks me up. 🤣
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
I love this parody. I posted it back on EP because I’m a spelling and grammar nerd. 😄
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@ChampagneOnIce I commit my share of word crimes, sometimes intentionally, as I did on this post (started a sentence with "And"), but I can really appreciate his skewering of the more egregious grammar offenses that are all too common.
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
@Rutterman I forgive starting sentences with conjunctions now. It’s so commonplace even though it’s grammatically incorrect. However, we talk that way, so on social media I get it. It can often convey a thought better, I think.
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@ChampagneOnIce Yes, it is commonplace and can often convey a thought better. Even professional writers sometimes start a sentence with "and" or "but", which tells me it's no longer considered a serious grammar offense to do that.

@Rutterman I know his drummer a little bit. Here's a podcast I co-produced with Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz. https://rickzshow.podbean.com/e/jon-bermuda-schwartz/

@uncalled4 Thanks! I'll be sure to check it out.
This is among his very best, imo. 😊

@bijouxbroussard Absolutely. Definitely one of his best.

I have an honest expression I think, a Canadian hates having to cover this way in this world of hyperbole.
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@SW-User Sorry, but I don't understand what you're saying here.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
I like Foil parodied from Royal.

But really all his stuff is great. I guess I'm just too white n nerdy to not love his stuff.
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@ViciDraco Another good one by Weird Al.

I think he was a bit surprised that I could laugh at it
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@Justmeraeagain It is a funny song. I commit my share of word crimes, but the song still makes me laugh.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
