I genuinely do not know how people enjoy country music

see like, I understand music is very subjective, what one likes, another might hate, I get that. But only modern country, this of course does not include John Denver, shania Twain, Johnny cash, or my man Conway. their music makes me go feral and I love it

I live in Europe, where American country music is not on the radio all the time, but I have to say I like that music style, and the lyrics are often fun. For example:
"If the phone won't ring, that's me."
"My wife ran off with my best friend, and I miss him" 😏

@helenS let's go swimming!😉
@helenS You've heard the joke about country music? (silly joke, but very old)

What happens when you quit listening to country music?
You get your truck back, you get your dog back, you get your wife back...

@UnderLockDown Good one! 👍😏

Modern country is definitely rough.

Country rap needs to be thrown into a volcano.

no literally, why does country rap exist, if music could make my ears bleed, country rap would. @thepreposterouspanda

@Bflyboo14 Right?! It's just a hideous attempt to pull something off that never should have been attempted at all. 😂

Current country music is mostly mindless , has the same sound as every other country song . I love 80’s country. Don Williams , the Bellamy Brothers, Roseanne Cash, Eddie Rabbit, TG Shepard, Alabama, Earl Thomas Connelly, Merle Haggard, George Strait, And a million more I don’t have time to mention . That was great country and great is great to dance to

@TexChik Don Williams, the Bellamy Brothers and Eddie Rabbitt were all big in the UK in the 1970s - mainstream chart success, but all overshadowed by Kenny Rogers.
TexChik · F
@ArtieKat yep but I remember them from the 80’s . Kenny Rogers was great too .

@TexChik Yeah,but you're much younger than me lol 😁

I find that if you play a country song backwards you get your wife, dog and pickup truck back #amiright?

When I was a kid, I had to help Mom clean the house each Sunday morning. This was done before breakfast, and involved a lot of cleaners and such things that made me sick to my stomach. It also involved the radio on the local C&W station. Mind you, this was back in the '70s, long before country became just rock-n-roll in cowboy hats — old-fashioned country. Anyway, I still associate the sound of country with the sickness in my stomach from those days.

I don’t understand why some like rap or hip hop, to me it’s just noise.
helenS · 36-40, F
@jackson55 That's mainly because it is noise; industrial noise. 😏

This is as close as I get to listening to Country

I like listening to it when I'm feeling blue and plaintive because that's the mood that country music elicits in me; when I'm feeling joyful and in the mood of celebrating life instead, I listen to the blues 😁
It has to be classic country for me. Hank Williams, etc.

Eddie Arnold, Patsy Cline, Conway, or Marty Robbins does it.

Although I can appreciate the pop influence in new country.
Dainbramadge · 56-60, M
I got to say I don't really get country music after 1980s.
I think the best country came out of the '60s and '70s.
But I also grew up listening to that so I would be a little biased.

Today's "country" is anything but. Gimme the music from the 30s through the 70s anyday
Bflyboo14 · 22-25, F
@JohnnyNoir I remember only listening to the country station when they had “way back Wednesday” and only played old country 🙂 I miss it
JohnnyNoir · 56-60, M
@Bflyboo14 I collect and listen to a lot of it these days.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
The artists you have listed--let's add George Jones to that list--are all, to me, REAL country, even if I'm not a die hard fan. But....this modern "bro country" stuff makes me lose my lunch. It sounds to me like music for people who don't like music.
Anything pre-1993 is ok by me.

It’s become a new fangled form of southern rock pop
New country is like the new hair metal

I might mix it up with some country but what I really dig is Hardcore Psychobilly
Justenjoyit · 61-69, M
I think country music is an aquired taste like rap and heavy metal.
