Reminds me of my first boss, Tim. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't be where I am today. He was a huge REM fan. Any song by REM reminds me of him.

He was/is a role model and a father figure. We still hang out.

He lived quite the life. He's now 62. I can't believe how the time flew by. Despite being 62 He still looks like he's in his 40s.

@PatKirby Thank you and still gives me tears every time I hear this song
I like to say that Shakespeare missed the boat. Because although Shakespeare wrote about great loves, he never wrote about the love of a parent for a child. And for many of us, that is far and away the greatest love in our lives.

@ElwoodBlues Kids do better if parents don't live for them, and are happy and love their Mom/Dad.🙂

Priest's Obey:

Release the strings of love and hatred, embrace the rain, now you're in control...

This is kind of in line with David Hawkins type therapy and acceptance therapy because of my panic disorder and the lingering after effects of panic attacks, I haven't had one in years but I still have let's say.. ghost feelings. But generally, the whole song rings true in society and how unhealthy we are at dealing with dark parts of ourselves so it comes out in repressive ways. That's kind of what I got from the video, is kind of about acceptance and love.

The line I quote starts around 2:30 it's so good.

@uncalled4 Great, now I'm crying myself..
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@scooogy Crying is good sometimes, it's actually healthy. I lost my mom when I was 10 year olds and sometimes I cry but kind of feel better after.

The summer this I learned to swim [4yrs] was the year this came out and was on the radio top 10 every week on the way to my lessons.

I have vivid memories of the car and the scratchy mat below the slide under my feet at the pool when I hear this song.

@PatKirby I'd lose my mind if I had to change strings on that. Part bass, part guitar, part autoharp, wow!
PatKirby · M
@uncalled4
I'm sure he's had to go through that and re-tune it before, but what a reward! I like how you can support the mid strings with the harp strings bringing up the bass with beautiful resonance. Plus the highlights accented by the higher octave string set at bottom. A fine instrument no doubt!

@SW-User I have a memory associated with this song. I was working at a small radio station when the satellite receiver, which delivered our programming, broke. Faced with the horror of "dead air", I grabbed as many tapes(known as "carts") as I could to play until someone could come to fix it. I grabbed this and "The End of The Innocence" by Don Henley. The rest was a blur!
