Are you or do you know someone who does not listen to music?

Or at least, very rarely listens.

One of my coworkers claimed she is "not really a music person". I'm not judging--there are "normal" things I'm not interested in either. But it's just unusual; I rarely come across people who have little to no interest in music and it's not easy for me to fathom what that's like.

I'm listening to music less these days for some reason I'm not sure. I'm kinda trying to take a break from the synthetic sounds. I think it be refreshing to actually go see a live show with real acoustics.

@Peaceful I'm reluctant to get extremely high with music again though. I'm not too sure why. I guess I'm afraid of achieving it too easily and what it could mean. Also when high on music my thought processes become altered in ways that do not conform and they can add complexity when navigating the social maze.

@dark548 solfeggio is pure

@Peaceful I'll check it out. I was going to add that music can make me feel an intense surreal extacy that I'm not sure how to navigate anymore. I become scared because life suddenly becomes like a dream and I'm used to struggling. It's a weird feeling.

One of my friends listens to music but has very little knowledge of anything outside of World War Two symphonic battle anthems, which is super weird. He likes other genres when I play them for him, and he often asks me what the names of songs are so he can listen to them again later, but he has virtually no knowledge of it outside of what he learns from me.

@BlueMetalChick thats... kinda weird.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@SW-User Yeah it's pretty weird. He's a very bizarre person. He's a bit of a savant, is the thing. He's not disabled; he hasn't got autism or Asperger's syndrome or anything like that, but sometimes he acts nearly like he does. He's a total war buff and can go on for hours about various battles and ranks and blah blah blah about different wars in history, but outside of that he really is pretty lost. He hasn't got many hobbies or interests or know what the hell he's doing when he's not inside the pages of a history book. Which is part of why he hangs out with me, cos I introduce him to all the stuff he normally wouldn't experience.

When I say I’m not a music person it’s because I don’t want to go into details about what kind of music I listen to. I listen to a lot of different music, so it’s almost annoying when someone asks sometimes. In small talk situations, for example.

Yes! One of my good friends is not into music! I have made him countless CDs to test this. He seems to respond to newer punk rock the most, but still can't identify a preferred song.

I mess around on a few instruments, enjoy a lot of different genres of music, but I wouldn’t describe myself as someone particularly interested in bands etc 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ehh yeah, it's fine with me tho,imo they've just never been exposed to music that they might like or that would make them feel something. 🤔
I’m not either. I listen to it on occasion but I really don’t have the patience. I enjoy listening to it in the car.
SW-User
@Spoiledbrat Not having the patience is also the reason given by people I know who don't like to read. Reading at least generally requires a lot of focus and time that some people just don't have.

A friend's husband has no interest in music at all. He's never brought any music and has never had a favourite song or artist.
Danez · M
No but I’ve known a few that didn’t own a tv and never watched any
SW-User
@Danez That seems to be much more common.
Danez · M
@SW-User yeah I think so.

I also think peope who don’t listen to music are strange. What’s not to like about music!!??
SW-User
I'm a music freak so I don't get it either

Look into the change to the Herz. That may be why.
She must be boring
SW-User
@silentkillx2 I'm a quiet person by nature, but compared to her, I'm a social butterfly. That said, she reads as much as I do, and I can appreciate that in a person :)

@SW-User No, I don't think so. By "listening to music", I don't mean only sitting quietly playing an album. She does not seem to even care for the most casual passive listening (such as in a car--she listens to talk radio). She doesn't dislike music, she just has no real interest in it.

I know this question made it sound like all she said to me was that she was not a music person, but we had a discussion about it afterward where she gave me more information.
I can go long periods of time without listening to music. But music is everywhere all the time. I just at times prefer silence to anything else (:
I talked with someone on EP once who admitted he just didn’t like music of any kind. He said it all sounded like noise to him. I’d never heard anyone say that before.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
No, and I doubt I could be friends with someone who didn't like music
