Because the bar for what is widely considered appropriate travels only down, not up.
The young people who listen to 'cutting edge' and pay to download music and support advertisers and the entertainment industry who caters to them both aim for shock value to identify who the younger generation is. We did it. You do it.
I can probably control what channels on MY radio get played, but there are a lot of radios in the world.

It’s not about children but what is termed ‘public decency’.

🤷🏻♀️ radio is dying anyway, you can just plug your phone in and play music from there.

It has something to do with unencoded over-the-air broadcasts. That why they blast you with everything in the book on satellite, cable, streaming, etc.

Ikr lol that's one of the reasons I don't listen radio. If they don't hear them on the radio they'll hear them somewhere trust me but it's inappropriate though.

It's the law. TV stations and radio can be fined if they allow certain curse words to be said on air.

@JaggedLittlePill The whole industry went apeshit after Janet Jackson's titty.

@JaggedLittlePill I grew up in a very austere, pious household. The only music that played on the radio was christian music. Now that I am driving on my own and listening to my own music on the radio, I have noticed some songs that have curse words have been censored out.

Call it what you want but it comes down to marketability.
