Why are curse words from songs not allowed on the radio?
I understand that it may be because of the children, but if that's the case then play music on a different station?

Because the bar for what is widely considered appropriate travels only down, not up.
The young people who listen to 'cutting edge' and pay to download music and support advertisers and the entertainment industry who caters to them both aim for shock value to identify who the younger generation is. We did it. You do it.
