Do you believe watching violent movies has a desensitizing effect on individuals?

I used to love horror movies and other movies rife with gore and violence but these days I don't even watch them. There's enough horror to intake just by looking at the news. When I think about the senseless violence that takes place irl, i can no longer bring myself to glorify that kind of violence by watching those movies.

it's already been established that . . .

1. food and beverage commercials can stimulate appetite
2. video porn creates arousal
3. the film "fast and furious" causes teenagers to attempt burnouts at the movie theater parking lot.

why wouldn't gun movies have a similar effect?

There's someone like Michael Haneke, who in a serious manner critiques violence in his art films.
The 6 o’clock news will do that..
