yesterday at dinner, my brother looked at my mom's phone ('cause he's a dick) and he saw that she was watching a youtube video w a really cringe

political title.

So he was making fun of her, and I kinda just suggested that she send us a link to the video, partially as a way to de-escalate and partly so I could watch it and commentate. I'm watching it this morning and it contains a lot of really easily refutable lies, which frankly serve to advance a message of bigotry and exclusion. I'm debating picking it apart & sending an email with the untrue statements /w time stamps, but I'm not sure how far I can go. I mean come on, she's my mommmmmmmmmmm

so, Im gonna be honest. Yall can hate me or disagree im sorry. I think some people are lost causes. My mom? A lost cause. I will no longer debate a person’s humanity to her. She simply will not care. She could be presented with facts and multiple sources, but it does not matter if it does not fit what she wants to believe. I no longer have that energy to waste on her.

Well. It's possible that she is watching simply out of curiosity. Entertaining an idea is not the same as believing one.

@CopperCicada ehhhh she defended it, she's pretty conservative in general.

unless she's extremely open minded she will perceive that as a personal attack

Sometimes moms can get it wrong. A gentle nudge in the right direction, coming from her son, may make a difference.

@Carla there's so much in here that this response is gonna be a mile longgggggggggg

do i just ignore most of it or what
Carla · 61-69, F
@BlueVeins pick the blatant stuff. And let her know if those things are untrue, the rest is at the very least, questionable.

You need to give her information without judgment. Limit the commentary. And, don't tie it back to your urbanization fantasy.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@MarkPaul I will tie everything back to my urbanization fantasy!
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@BlueVeins Yeah, but we don't want to live in that fantasy.
Ugh...i hate to state my age , but jere goes.

Im a mum , im 52.
I have a mum .

At some point things switch over - you need to become the adult .

You need to decide, is this worth it?
Even my daughter and i avoid some topics as we knkw we dont agree or understand each other.

What is your 'big picutre'?
Wjat is most important?

Is this an argument worth having ?

Sometimes you need to love a person in spite of what they believe.

And as an older person, as much as i hate it , it isn't easy to change a long held belief 🤷‍♀️
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@OogieBoogie Some beliefs are wrong. The person with the wrong belief needs to be told.
