it's really pretty overblown
she's attractive
she's clothed
reminds me of the Brooke Shields' add in the 80s - it was a little different - she was 15 when it started.

1. The "Genes" vs "Jeans" Wordplay
The ad begins with someone saying “Sydney Sweeney has great genes”—then crosses out “genes” and replaces it with “jeans.” The tagline plays on the pun between genetic inheritance and denim........ 😃
Sydney says: “Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color … my genes are blue.”
2. Eugenics and White Supremacist Undertones
The pun evoked imagery tied to historical eugenics, especially given the focus on blonde hair, blue eyes, and the idea of “great genes.”
Eugenics historically promoted selective breeding for traits associated with whiteness, and the ad’s framing reminded observers of Nazi-era propaganda. -- thats why people find it weird.
3. Political and Cultural Reactions
The ad drew comparisons to Nazi propaganda and Aryan supremacy branding. A lot of people called it a racist dog whistle, even citing echoes of far-right ideological language.
it just seems that the ad was targeted towards far-right, conservative, white men.

The reason why the sydney sweeney ad is offensive is because, the ad’s concept—centered on a wordplay about genes and featuring a conventionally white beauty archetype—was seen by many as an unwitting echo of eugenics and racist propaganda, especially given its visual and verbal focus on inherited traits. In today’s sociopolitical climate, that message felt dangerously out of touch, leading to widespread online backlash and cultural debate.

This is a very weird attack on an ethnicity by people of the same ethnicity and it's impossible for me to understand wtf is in the attackers minds.
I do know I now want to buy a very expensive pair of American Eagle jeans though

It is because a small section of society see any celebration of natural looks or talent that are not from a minority in western countries as racist.
These people also need desperately to stay relevant by having something to point at.
Celebrating good genes, regardless of heritage is not racist.

I don't see a problem with it.
I don't care enough about such things.

I think it's another case of the craziest people being the loudest. Most people don't see anything wrong here.
