I'm watching the Following

It's a decent show on Netflix that was off for 8 years and they just put it back on. It's kinda gruesome but is pretty good. About a serial killer who creates a cult and tries to get at a detective who got him the first time. Kinda reminds me of a joker and batman type relationship. I haven't watched it in awhile so third time is a charm.

The Following was actually one of my favourites, especially season one. What hooked me wasn’t even the gore - it was that strange bond between Joe and Ryan. Less hero vs villain, more obsession dressed up as purpose. The Joker/Batman comparison fits, but this felt more intimate… almost uncomfortable in how close they were to each other’s minds.

I’ve always liked stories like that - the ones that stay with you after the screentime, where you catch yourself thinking about the psychology more than the plot. The private conversation...

@Eidolon Oh yeah it feels way more intimate than batman and joker. And I agree on the second part of what you wrote. For me I loved the second season more.

@AngelUnforgiven It’s back on Netflix after 8 years. I hated that it was canceled too, they could have gone in another direction for at least two more seasons

In reality I can't imagine something as hopeless and depressing as spending all that time and effort to get back at some cop that arrested you. He's no body, there are thousands of cops that would do it to. So much life wasted. What's worse is there are people like this who will waste their time trying to get even with a person or people that they don't like. Only drug users are worse.

@HobNoblin Not that you're not right, it is a waste on petty grievances. You'd think there's so many things to do in life. I'm not saying this to disagree with your original point, it's also pointless to look at it from that perspective. Different psychological makeups make it nearly impossible because they so often operate from a different set of morals and rules, there could be other underlying issues as well.

And this type of serial killer in the show is a romanticist who was heavily obsessed with Poe and other authors. So his whole obsession is related to that.

How's it coming along? Do you like it?

A serial criminal and a cult you say? Hmm... Quite a combination.
