We need another really good tv-show
It's escapism, of course, but how about a female version of Magnum PI for example? That's a tv-series from my own youth. It was basically a group of males doing male stuff together. It got to be a bit boring once one got passed the lovely cars and glorious settings. But no, never the beautiful guest stars like an young Sharon Stone, nor the on-going denuding of the personal life of every main character. In short, the story lines saved the day. Now my idea is that one could make those into how women experience life instead of men so very easily without losing any of the escapism. I especially remember an eight episode in the second season that coud be rewritten like that.
In the original series a novelist called "Mad Buck" Gibson comes to terms with his terminal cancer and decides to embark on one final adventure and that's hang gliding from Oahu to Maui. Magnum knows that this will almost certainly end in the death of Buck, but he regretfully realizes that there is nothing he can do to stop it. Just after take off, Buck shouts down to Magnum, "Don't look so grim Magnum, with my luck I'll make it!" It was a really powerful ending to a great episode.
How about making that character into a female writer/adventurist in her thirties who's been struggling with breast cancer, the loss of men in her life and the demise of her active sexuality? How about putting forward a fierce female character marked by the illness, both physically en mentally, like that? She has still some alure but the men abandon her one after the other just because she can't handle the effects of the disease and the various treatments that she goes through very well. Add to that an overconcerned father that doesn't even allow her to make any of the decisions for her life's end and I think that you'll have one terrific script again
