H, did you know James Arness was Peter Graves' brother (if you are a Mission Impossible fan). Graves didn't want it to look like he was piggybacking of his brother's success

@Thrust Somebody in this threat already mentioned that, and that Arness was really blonde, and had to dye his hair for Gunsmoke.

@Thrust The roll of Matt Dillon was originally offered to John Wayne, he turned it down and suggested James Arness.

Arness was the monster in the original version of The Thing.

@helenS I watched Gunsmoke growing up, and still occasionally watch it. Burt Reynolds was in the show for a while as Newly, the blacksmith.
