Why do people do this

So I came out of my office to get some water and my worker asked me how things were going.

I said things were fine but it was freezing in MY office.

He says what are you talking about it's not cold in here you must be crazy.

I said well it's cold in my office.

And he says I highly doubt that. It's definitely not cold in there.

I mean why say that. Yes it is cold to me, in fact I turned on my little office heater to warm myself up.

Do people just want to argue just to argue?

It's frustrating!! I think many people can't accept anything different from what THEY think or said. It's immature, rude and seems a form of narcissism.

@Coralmist it's why I never talk politics or religion at work or even on here because I just don't want to argue with people. So I just keep quiet about all that. I guess now I've learned that I can't even tell somebody if I'm cold or hot LOL

@Cigarguy Exactly, I never bring up controversial things because I don't have the want for constant criticism or arguments. I don't mind a debate here or there, but on the whole I stick to very casual issues.
I've dealt with a malignant narcissist, my mom for years, and I just read in a book on narcissists, the psychologist author said you really can't talk about ANYTHING with a narcissist. They will cut down positive things, sad things, Anything. So it's sad sometimes I want to tell my mom something and I know I can't ..EVEN if positive. She still will find a way to reject or ridicule it. So I know what you mean on not even saying a regular thing 🙁

@Coralmist I hate arguing with people. I tend to shut down and get very uncomfortable when someone starts disappearing with me on something. I also worry I'll have a outbursts and say something that will make the situation much worse. So I just find it easier to keep my head down, be quiet and stay out of those kind of conversations altogether.
