@ronisme1 He really had many excellent qualities for a captain, for example: patience and he was disarming and diplomatic but he also took no sht (i.e. when he was dealing with the Vulcans).
And he generally always looked on the bright side, he was an optimist: what's around that corner? It's that adventure thrill seeker, tempered with caution of a wise man.
