I Love "Star Trek, the Next Generation"

Star Trek Picard is not actual Star Trek

I've been overseeing Star Trek: Picard and what I have seen so far is far from being anything Star Trek. Gene Rodenberry's vision for Star Trek is supposed to be positive and about humans overcoming their problems and immaturity by exploring the galaxy and seeking out new life and new civilizations. Instead, all we are getting is Saw or Pirates of the Caribbean in space. There is no character development for a show that is supposed to be in the verge of heading to the 25th century, humanity has reverted its attitude to the early 21st century. This is the mess you get whenever you hire writers or producers who have never seen Star Trek before.

You have eloquently and succinctly summated why PICARD is NOT STAR TREK.

I REFUSE to watch it now , season two.
This kind of TV: It actually does traumatize me. I don't need that sht.

This is SO Disgraceful.

How are you about Discovery? I despize it for the same reasons.
@Barefooter25 That is what I had construed.

And also not enough flow between character interactions and relationships.
I love the longer slower, like a calm river, metaphorically speaking. But Star Wars is more like insane (deadly) rapids with mini calm in-between.

@LunadelobosIAMTHEDRAGON George Lucas agrees with you. He said that Star Wars is more like an opera in space. He also believes that Star Trek and Star Wars don't belong in the same universe.
@Barefooter25 Huh. That's fascinating.

But I disagree with him on the latter point, they can indeed belong in the same universe:
The universe of each person's respective imagination :) 🥂

Had to rewatch all seasons of tng to wash picard out of my eyes.
@xSharp I feel your pain.

It's such a disgrace and travesty.

Yeah Picard is slow and not particularly Star Trek like. Although he does end up on a ship. I watched the whole series and was surprised like with Discovery at the inclusion of the F word.

just an offshoot, i love Patrick Stewart in logan.... 'i gotta pee' thank you charles.
Barefooter25 · 46-50, M
@sighmeupforthat Instead of getting a good sci-fi space exploration show, all we are getting is a 24th century version of As The World Turns or Guiding Light.
@sighmeupforthat OMG!
LOGAN...
That's some dope sht!

A proper farewell to a franchise, an era.
Yeah it really is sad how the writers of Picard don't understand what Star Trek is. But what do you expect when they use the same writers of STD. They should hire the writers of The Orville. Those people understand Star Trek
@Qwerty14 I thought that Jonathan Frakes is involved in Picard, behind the scenes I mean?
sighmeupforthat · 46-50, M
god dam right! not.

it's like lucifer, someone's gotta do it when the elder is too inefficient.

there's always a JIM! god dammit pointed ear hob goblins dog faced boy !

Gene’s vision was frankly boring by the late 90s. Space commie utopia with no real interpersonal conflict is - well, done.

Picard’s all right.

I think they junked the original ideas a long time ago. Your last sentence is the reason that Star Trek Nemesis with the STNG crew was so dire.
MySecretIdentity1 · 46-50, M
I think there really isn't anyone left that worked on any of the series.
Barefooter25 · 46-50, M
@MySecretIdentity1 I think most of the producers for TNG, DS9 and Voyager are working on The Orville.
