“Obsession (2025)” left me yearning for another genuine love story

As much as I enjoyed that movie, there was never any true love involved. The main character Bear never actually loved Nikki, he just lusted after her. Then once he wished for the most intense form of love there could be from her, he learned the hard way: it’s not what he wants.

I want genuine love stories or films where it been may even seem borderline obsessed, but is harmless because the genuine love is there. Or just… you know: a passionate love story.

Unfortunately, the filmmaker repeatedly made Nikki the butt of the joke. He made her act so intensely 'crazy' that she lost sympathy from the audience despite the fact that she was the victim. Instead of men understanding that she was manipulated by Bear, they come away feeling that she was the problem - a psycho - and even a reflection of how women really act when they get jealous. I can't tell you how many guys I've seen comparing her to their BPD, anxious attachment exes, while missing the entire point.

The film made sure to focus on how "sexy" she was as a character by dressing her suggestively when she was Nikki. They made sure to turn her trauma into comedy, for laughs. The filmmaker wasn't transparent enough about her suffering. It's absolutely not a love story

@Sorceress There’s not a doubt in my mind that Bear is the villain.
I just finished watched it a bit ago. It was intense. But you’re right. There was no love there. Always be careful what you wish for huh?

@MyMonstersAreReal Saving Face (2004)

A romantic comedy that’s as tender as it gets.
@Ducky I’ll let you know what I think 💕
